We about us

For decades the Palais im Grossen Garten in Dresden only survived as a ruin.In the meantime the exterior has been almost completely restored and also on the first floor rooms have been reconstructed. These rooms were accessible to to public during the concert series "Open Palais" and on the days of "Open Monument". The public shows extraordinary interest in these events. The people of Dresden are justifiably afraid that this unique Palais, which is a jewel and a European treasure, will be used by its owner, the Freistaat Saxony, not as a center of artistic entertainment, as originally intended and that the ballroom on the first floor will be disfigured by architectural changes. The Palais saw the first Dresden performance of Bethoven's 9. symphony on August 17,1838.This spirit shall be revived in accordance with the preservation of this historic monument.

The Förderverein Palais Grosser Garten, founded October 16,2000, is committed to ideologically and financially support the restauration of the Palais im Grossen Garten to its original condition and appropriate use for artistic performances. On Reformation Day 2000 musicians and citizens of Dresden demonstrated for the first time in favor of the Palais im Grossen Garten as a place for festive artistic entertainment.Hundreds of musicians from various Dresden orchestras and thousands of citizens played and sang together in an impressive way " Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott" and the last movement from Bethoven's9. symphony. When people took each others hands and formed a ring around the Palais , the Förderverein understood this as a mandate to continue in its efforts. The only still living honorary citizen of Dresden and Nestor of German preservation of historic monuments and honorary member of our association- Prof.Dr.Hans Nadler, was also present.
